
I-SPEED (external link to November 2011 version of project leaflet) project focuses on the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) as key to improve the European Tourism Economy competitiveness and sustainability. The main problems addressed are:
- Lack of awareness among politicians and decision-makers about the opportunities offered by the Information Society to improve public services and to foster competitiveness towards Lisbon Agenda goals
- Need to promote Innovation and ICT-based public services
- Loss of competitiveness of European Tourism Economy
The project supports the adoption of Information Society policies able to underpin regional economies and identifies the needs to:
- Raise awareness of regional/local governments about Information Society potential
- Exchange experiences and transfer good policy practices at EU level - Reduce the negative effects related to seasonal concentration (in time and space)
- Support the relation between public/private sector
- Foster the adoption of ICT-based flow management systems and arrivals trend analysis
- Develop broadband infrastructures, context-aware services, B2C and B2B platforms
- Face dis-intermediation risks and foster the coordination role of public administrations
